Gambling can be an enjoyable form of entertainment — but only when it stays within limits you are comfortable with. onepkr takes responsible gambling seriously. This page covers everything Pakistani players need to know: age rules, control tools, warning signs and genuine support resources.
Our Commitment
At onepkr, responsible gambling is not a legal checkbox — it is a genuine editorial commitment that runs through everything we publish. Pakistan has a passionate sports-loving population across Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan and Peshawar. Cricket — from tense Test matches to PSL knockout nights and ICC tournaments — generates enormous excitement. That excitement, for adults who choose to engage with gambling platforms, should remain fun, controlled and clearly bounded.
Gambling problems do not only affect heavy gamblers. They can develop gradually and affect people who started out simply enjoying the game. Recognising the early warning signs, knowing what tools are available and understanding your rights as a player are all essential — and that is exactly what this page is here to help with.
onepkr is an information platform, not a gambling operator. We do not accept bets or hold player funds. Any advice on tools or controls on this page refers to features that responsible licensed operators make available. Where you choose to gamble, please use those tools from day one — not as a last resort.
If someone in your household — a child or young person — may be able to access your device unsupervised, please enable parental control software and ensure your gambling account is password-protected and logged out when not in use.
Player Protection Tools
These tools are designed to keep gambling entertaining and within your means. Responsible licensed operators are required to offer them — and onepkr strongly recommends using them from the very first session.
Set a cap on how much you can deposit in a given period — daily, weekly or monthly. This is one of the most effective tools for preventing you from spending more than you can afford. Setting a deposit limit early, before you ever need it, is the single most impactful responsible gambling action you can take.
A loss limit caps the amount you can lose over a set period. Unlike deposit limits (which control inflow), loss limits directly target the downside — ensuring that a bad run does not spiral into a session that does serious financial damage. Set your loss limit at a level you genuinely consider affordable to lose.
Time can disappear quickly when you are playing. Session time limits place a hard boundary on how long a single gambling session can last. Many platforms also offer reality check prompts — periodic reminders during play showing how long you have been playing and how much you have spent.
A cool-off (or "take a break") feature lets you temporarily pause your account for a short, defined period — typically 24 hours to a few weeks. During this time you cannot log in or place bets. It is ideal for players who feel they are gambling too frequently but are not ready for full self-exclusion.
Self-exclusion is the most powerful tool available. It allows you to block your own access to a gambling platform for an extended period — from several months to five years or more, depending on the operator. Once activated, it cannot easily be reversed during the exclusion period. This is the right choice when gambling feels out of control.
KYC (Know Your Customer) verification — confirming your identity, age and address — is a legal and ethical safeguard. It prevents underage access and ensures that self-exclusion lists are properly enforced. Completing KYC early protects you as much as it protects the platform.
Setting Limits
The most common mistake with gambling limits is setting them reactively — after a bad session — rather than proactively before you start. onepkr recommends the following approach for any Pakistani player considering online gambling platforms.
Before you fund any gambling account, decide on a monthly entertainment budget — a fixed PKR amount that you are genuinely comfortable never seeing again. Treat this the same way you would a movie ticket or restaurant meal: money set aside for entertainment, not investment. Set your monthly deposit limit to this figure before you make your first deposit.
Then set your session time limit to a duration that fits naturally into your schedule without displacing family time, work or sleep. A PSL match may last three or four hours — your gambling session does not need to match that.
Caps total deposits in a 7-day window. Ideal for regular players.
Example only — set your own limit in your account settings.
Stops further play when cumulative losses hit your threshold.
Illustrative example — always set a limit you are comfortable losing entirely.
Enforces a hard stop on your playing session by time.
Set a session limit that keeps gambling as entertainment, not occupation.
Periodic pop-up reminders during play showing session stats.
More frequent reality checks are generally more effective for awareness.
Taking a Break
Self-exclusion is a formal commitment to stop gambling for a defined period. It is one of the most important responsible gambling tools available, and responsible licensed operators are expected to honour it rigorously.
The key thing to understand about self-exclusion is that it is designed to be difficult to reverse. Once you have activated it for a chosen period, you should not be able to simply log back in after a day or two if you change your mind. This friction is deliberate — it is part of what makes self-exclusion effective.
If you are self-excluded from one platform, consider whether you need to exclude yourself from others too. Self-exclusion on one site does not automatically apply across all operators.
Important: Self-exclusion requests made via the operator's responsible gambling or support section are typically processed within 24 hours. During that processing window, avoid logging back in. Contact the operator's support team directly if you need confirmation that exclusion is active.
Log into your gambling account and navigate to the Responsible Gambling, Player Safety or Account Settings section. Most licensed operators have a clearly labelled self-exclusion or "take a break" option in this area.
Choose a period that gives you genuine breathing room. Options typically range from 6 months to 5 years. If in doubt, choose longer — it is easier to have exclusion lifted after full recovery than to extend it mid-crisis.
You may be asked to confirm your decision by email or through a verification step. Complete this promptly. Some operators will request a short waiting period to verify it is a genuine, considered request.
If you have open bets or a pending balance, these will typically be settled according to the operator's terms. Any remaining balance may be returned per the operator's responsible gambling policy. Check their terms for specifics.
Self-exclusion blocks access to the platform, but addressing the underlying behaviour often requires additional support. Consider reaching out to a counsellor, support helpline or trusted friend or family member during the exclusion period — see the Support Resources section below.
Know the Signs
Problem gambling rarely announces itself obviously. It typically develops gradually. These warning signs are worth reviewing honestly — for yourself or someone you care about.
Gambling with money intended for essential expenses — rent, utilities, food, children's education — or borrowing to fund gambling.
Chasing losses — continuing to gamble to try to win back money you have already lost, often escalating bets in the process.
Lying to family, friends or a partner about how much you are gambling or how much money you have lost.
Feeling restless, irritable or anxious when you are not gambling, or when you try to cut down.
Gambling for increasingly long periods, or gambling instead of attending family events, work commitments or social engagements.
Reaching for a gambling app the moment you receive your salary, a PSL result notification, or a sports event alert — gambling as a reflex rather than a choice.
Depleting savings, selling assets or taking loans specifically to fund gambling activity, even when aware of financial stress.
Gambling late into the night, during work hours or during family time — gambling consistently displacing other life priorities.
Withdrawing from family or social relationships, or feeling that gambling is the only activity that provides relief or excitement.
Recognising these signs in yourself is a sign of strength, not weakness. The earlier you act — by setting limits, taking a break or seeking support — the easier recovery typically becomes. You do not need to be in crisis to reach out for help. Concern is enough.
Quick Self-Check
Honest self-reflection is one of the most effective tools for maintaining responsible gambling habits. The questions below are not a diagnostic test — they are conversation starters for a private, honest check-in with yourself.
If you find yourself answering "yes" to several of these questions — especially those involving financial stress, deception or emotional distress — please consider reaching out to a support resource or activating a self-exclusion or cool-off period on the platforms you use.
Reflect honestly on these questions
If any of these questions made you pause, that is worth taking seriously. Even one "yes" is worth reflecting on. Please see the Support Resources below — or speak to someone you trust today.
Getting Help
If gambling is causing harm — financially, emotionally or in your relationships — help is available. The resources below are mentioned for informational context. Please reach out directly to confirm availability and contact details.
Every responsible licensed operator has a dedicated support team for responsible gambling enquiries. This is your first port of call for activating self-exclusion, setting limits or requesting account closure. Locate the "Responsible Gambling" or "Safer Play" section in your operator's account settings or help centre.
Speaking to a trusted family member — a parent, sibling or spouse — or a close friend about gambling concerns can be a vital first step. Pakistani culture places enormous value on family support networks. You do not have to face this alone, and the people who care about you would rather know.
In Pakistan, mental health services — including those dealing with compulsive behaviours — are increasingly accessible in major cities such as Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. Speaking with a qualified counsellor or psychologist can address the emotional and behavioural patterns that drive problem gambling. Your family doctor can provide a referral.
Globally recognised organisations including GamCare, the National Problem Gambling Helpline (NCPG), Gamblers Anonymous and BeGambleAware publish extensive self-help resources, online support tools and helpline information. These resources are available in English and may be useful for Pakistani players seeking guidance in their own language.
Numerous evidence-based self-help resources on problem gambling are freely available online in English. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches in particular have a strong evidence base for addressing compulsive gambling. Your operator's responsible gambling section may also provide links to vetted resources.
If you have concerns about responsible gambling content on this platform, or wish to flag a potential issue, you can contact the onepkr team directly. We will respond and, where appropriate, signpost you to the most relevant support resource available. Email (plain text): support@onepkr.cam
If gambling is causing immediate financial crisis, serious harm to your mental health, or urgent distress for you or your family — please do not wait. Contact your operator's support team to activate self-exclusion now, reach out to a trusted person in your life, or contact a mental health helpline or counsellor. This is not something you have to manage alone.
